Sofia Digital and Digita have signed a framework agreement stating that companies will co-operate on developing new interactive DVB-H services for the markets in Finland. At the same time Digita has launched commercially new interactive services. Solution provided by Sofia Digital brings new Digita info channel and several interactive Radio on Mobile TV services available for consumers.

Framework agreement signed at the end of May secure the good continuing relationship between the companies for next 3 years for developing and supporting the current DVB-H services. “Interactive services will have a far more important role in mobile TV than in digital TV. The Sofia Digital platform was currently the most complete solution for enabling our customers’ plans for interactive mobile TV”, comments Tarja Rautio, Mobile TV service development manager from Digita. Digita has shown how to use the potential of the DVB-H for interactivity and interactive channel content, not only playing video. “For Sofia Digital it is important to have a domestic partner you can develop new interesting services together”, states Ari Pöyhtäri, CEO of Sofia Digital.

Sofia Backstage^® is integrated to Digita head-end running Nokia Mobile Broadcast Solution and is used for generating the TV channel content and interactivity broadcasted to mobile TV users. Previously deployed Sofia Backstage® EPG Manager provides program data information also for the channels broadcasting the radio channel content.

The new channels and interactive services are available in Digita operated DVB-H network in Helsinki, Tampere, Oulu and Turku regions. The network covers approximately 40 % of Finns. To be able to view mobile TV the mobile handset needs to have a DVB-H compatible receiver.
